On December 7, 2018, more than 30 Koerner Hall artists past and present earned nominations for a 2019 Grammy Award. The list represents some of the world's leading artists and a wide range of musical genres, from roots and world music to jazz and classical.
Leading the way with six nominations is singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile, who earned nods in the high-profile categories of Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year. Other Koerner Hall artists receiving multiple Grammy nominations include violin virtuoso James Ehnes, master jazz pianist Brad Mehldau, and Malian singer-songwriter Fatoumata Diawara.
Among nominated albums is the latest recording by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO), dedicated to works by Ralph Vaughan Williams. The album features past Koerner Hall artists, faculty members of The Glenn Gould School, and alumni of The Royal Conservatory Certificate Program, including pianist Louis Lortie, oboist Sarah Jeffrey, soprano Carla Huhtanen, and tenor Tyler Duncan. The TSO will make its debut at The Royal Conservatory's 21C Music Festival on January 16, 2019.
The 61st Grammy Awards ceremonies take place in Los Angeles on February 10, 2019.
